The Keel

Construction of the Hjemkomst began in 1974.  To begin the keel was laid,  The Vikings would have shaped the keel out of a single tree, but because trees of this size seldom exist, Bob Asp laminated the keel.

The keel is used to keep the boat tracking in a straight line.  It also helps to negate the boat from moving sideways in winds coming from the front or side.
